BOLTED VERTICAL SILOS

Tailor-Made Modularity, Large Capacity, Maximum Adaptability

Bolted silo system

Bolted Vertical Silos SPG Series

Features

Poggi S.p.A. Bolted Vertical Silos are designed for the safe and efficient storage of bulk materials in powder, granular and inert form, such as cement, lime, premix products and industrial materials. Ideal for large-scale plants, port terminals and applications requiring high storage volumes, they represent a flexible and high-performance solution for bulk material management. This type of vertical silo is engineered to ensure maximum capacity, structural stability and design adaptability, even in large industrial installations such as port storage.

The structure consists of high-thickness steel panels connected by high-strength bolting. The modular configuration allows diameters up to 15 meters and capacities exceeding 6,000 m³, ensuring high stability, mechanical strength and adaptability to different project requirements. Materials and connection systems guarantee long-term durability and excellent resistance to weather conditions. Thanks to their modular design, silos are supplied as elements organized on optimized transport frames, simplifying loading, logistics and transport by truck or sea. This approach reduces handling costs and improves efficiency in complex job sites. The modular configuration also optimizes long-distance logistics, facilitating shipment by truck or sea and simplifying the management of large international projects. Assembly is carried out safely following proven procedures, ensuring operational reliability and fast installation.

Silos are available in different configurations and capacities, with extensive customization options to meet specific customer requirements.

Each component is selected to maximize durability and minimize maintenance needs, providing a reliable and tailor-made solution for plants requiring high capacity, modularity and full storage efficiency.

Operation and Safety

In bolted silos, each component is designed to ensure high mechanical strength, operational safety, and long-term reliability, even in complex installations or demanding environmental conditions.
This section outlines the technical elements that define the modular panel system, with a focus on devices and solutions that optimize material handling and support operational continuity.

SEALING GASKETS

Gaskets, positioned at the junction points between the different sections forming the silo, play a key role: they must withstand wear and provide protection against weather conditions. The materials selected by Poggi ensure long-term sealing performance, contributing to the overall stability and efficiency of the structure.

LOADING SAFETY

The Poggi silo is equipped with a safety system designed to prevent overpressure or underpressure conditions.
To start loading, the operator connects the pipe to the silo by moving a handle: this action activates an indicator on the control panel. Only at this point can the butterfly valve be opened from the control panel, allowing material to enter. This procedure ensures that loading takes place only when the silo is properly ready, preventing overloads or unsafe operations.

TWO-WAY SAFETY SYSTEM

The silo is equipped with a two-way safety system to prevent overpressure or vacuum conditions.
In case of filter blockage, an electronic pressure sensor automatically stops loading by closing the butterfly valve.
If this first level of protection fails, a second mechanical system intervenes to rebalance the pressure inside the silo.

CONNECTION OF COMPONENTS

Bolting is a key structural element in bolted silos, as it ensures the mechanical integrity of the entire structure. Depending on the installation environment (e.g. marine conditions), different types of bolts can be used, with varying sizes and protective treatments. Each bolt contributes to the overall stability of the silo, ensuring a strong and durable connection between the panels.

INTERNAL LINING

Different types of internal lining can be applied, selected according to the nature of the material to be stored. These linings serve a dual function: they protect internal surfaces from wear, abrasion or corrosion, while also facilitating material flow toward the discharge, reducing friction and buildup. The correct selection helps optimize operational efficiency and extend the service life of the silo.

Material Flow Management

Material Extraction

DISCHARGE SYSTEM Material is discharged by gravity through a conical bottom hopper designed to facilitate flow even with high-density materials or large volumes. The system can be configured with butterfly valves, pneumatic valves, and external extraction screw conveyors, depending on the application and the type of connected system. VIBRATION SYSTEMS To ensure complete silo emptying even with difficult materials, electric vibrators or selective vibration systems can be installed, calibrated according to the material type. This reduces discharge times and prevents bridging or blockages. FLUIDIZATION SYSTEMS Fluidization pads or nozzles installed in the lower part of the silo introduce compressed air to keep powders or light materials in motion. Particularly suitable for cement, hydrated lime, fly ash, and other light, powdery materials.

Material Dosing

VOLUMETRIC DOSING
Material dosing is carried out via screw conveyor, adjusting the operating time based on the silo’s nominal capacity. A reliable solution that ensures operational continuity and consistent output, particularly suitable for homogeneous materials and repetitive working cycles.

ELECTRONIC DOSING WITH LOAD CELLS
For applications requiring precision, traceability and certified dosing, a loss-in-weight weighing system can be integrated. Load cells connected to an electronic terminal ensure reliable measurements, with cycle recording and controlled, verifiable recipe management.

REMOTE MANAGEMENT AND TRACEABILITY OPTIONS
Upon request, dosing systems can be integrated with digital interfaces for remote control, data visualization from external terminals and automatic report generation. This enables advanced silo management even remotely and full integration into automated systems or Industry 4.0 environments.

Dust Filtration

TOP FILTER Mounted directly on the silo roof, the top filter is designed to capture and retain venting dust generated during pneumatic loading. The system operates continuously and automatically, without the need for manual intervention, helping to keep the surrounding environment clean and improving safety in the operating area. Efficient separation between air and solid particles reduces the risk of emissions into the atmosphere and preserves the integrity of the stored material, preventing waste and contamination. Depending on the type of material stored in the silo, different types of filters can be installed, optimized for particle size distribution or the chemical nature of the dust handled.
